Central African countries come together for conservation

Brazzaville, Congo - Ministry representatives of the environment in six countries of the Congo Basin, plus Chad, gathered together to set up a priority action plan with conservationists and funding groups in Central Africa. Gabriel Bokoumaka, Cabinet Director of Congo's Ministry of Waters and Forest, acknowedged the significant contribution of WWF in making this momentous occasion take place. Mr. Bokoumaka also reiterated his statement regarding the challenge to consider during the 4-day workshop: "the necesity of resulting to a common, converging mechanism should be kept in mind to support coordination and monitoring conservation activities in our Congo Basin countries. This should favour specific and time-based decision making".

During the four-day workshop, experts of conservation organisations and Central Africa's state representatives, together with donor delegates, worked on identifying a mechanism to point out priorities, commit funding, and plan implementation. "Both decision makers and conservation and development partners need to set up a committing instrument that will help the states materialize and operationalize their priorities", Bokoumaka added.
