The disappearance of Forests in the country has been attributed to the scarcity of water and lack of lobbying by interested parties.

Participants at the National Agroforestry Strategy Workshop in Muguga decried that over 10 per cent of Kenya's forest had disappeared.

They said this has resulted to severe shortage of timber for industrial purposes and wood for domestic energy.

Research Extension Liason Officer from the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry Qureish Noordin said many agents including the ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Universities, Non-Governmental Organizations among others are involved in the promotion of agroforestry in parts of the country.

He said the efforts by various organizations involved in the promotion lacked proper co-ordination.

During the workshop, participants resolved to form the Kenya Agroforestry Network Board with an aim of ensuring the problem was addressed.

The workshop was held at the Kenya Forestry Research Institute in Muguga. Error: Unable to read footer file.
