Nairobi (The Nation, November 20, 1998) - A leading partner in the firm of
lawyers that set up 37 companies which received Karura forest plots was
yesterday forced to retire.

Mr Ambrose Dickson Otieno Rachier left the firm of Oraro and Rachier
Company Advocates following disclosure that the firm had incorporated 37
of the 64 that were tabled in Parliament having been allocated more than
500 acres.

A circular from the managing partner at the firm, Mr John Ougo, told staff
that Mr Rachier had retired with effect from yesterday. The circular
further said that two clerks thought to have been involved in the
incorporation of companies had been dismissed. A lawyer has publicly
admitted having been duped over the allocations.
