KUNMING (Nov. 1) XINHUA - Yunnan Province is trying to turn a
"forest" of sand into a a world scenic spot.
Ridges and peaks of the "forest" made of sand cover an area of six
square km. The most unusual character about the sand forest is that
it looks a kaleidoscope of colors. It's like wandering through an art
gallery of sand. The sand forest is about 140 kilometers from
Kunming.
The sand forest became well known in the late 1980s. More than one
million tourists have visited the sand forest since then. Yunnan
Province plans to invite foreign investment in developing the sand
forest and a road leading to the forest, as well as hotels and
recreational facilities.
