Belem, 11/19/01 - The positive and negative impacts of forestry certification will be the theme of debates during the 5th International Congress on Tropical Wood and Plywood, which begins tomorrow in Belem. Global attention on environmental questions related to lumbering, especially in the Amazon rainforest, and forestry certification, or the so-called Green Seal, could become basic requirements for lumber companies that want to guarantee their competitiveness and access to the most demanding markets in the world. The event is promoted by a partnership between the Para State Lumber Exporting Industries Association, the state's industrial federation (Fiepa) and several other industrial organizations.
