MANAUS, Brazil--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 1999--Raytheon Brasil
Sistemas de Integracao, the Rio de Janeiro-based Brazilian subsidiary
of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA, RTNB), today announced the delivery
of the first operational system equipment for use in the Amazon rain
forest as part of the Brazilian government project known as the
System for the Vigilance of the Amazon (SIVAM), a surveillance system
for the region.

The current delivery includes a surface weather station and an air
traffic control radar that will be installed and integrated by
Raytheon and will become fully operational by mid-2000. The weather
station will collect meteorological data, such as air temperature,
wind speed, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure. The air
traffic control radar will provide data for the management of aviation
operations in the area around Jacareacanga.

The equipment arrived at the port of Manaus and will be processed
through customs by officials of the Coordinating Commission of the
System for Vigilance of the Amazon (CCSIVAM) before being delivered to
the installation site at Jacareacanga in the state of Para, according
to Gregory Vuksich, president of Raytheon Brasil Sistemas de
Integracao.

Earlier this year, Raytheon delivered and installed satellite ground
station and image processing equipment at the Instituto Nacional de
Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE - Brazil's National Institute for Space
Research) facilities in Cuiaba and Cachoeria de Paulista. This upgrade
to INPE's satellite imagery receiving and processing capabilities was
the first SIVAM equipment to be formally accepted in Brazil and is now
fully operational.

"As with the earlier shipments of the INPE equipment, Raytheon's
current delivery is on schedule and we will continue delivering and
integrating equipment for the SIVAM regional surveillance center in
Manaus on the schedule set by the customer," said Carlos Gonzaga, vice
president of Raytheon Brasil Sistemas de Integracao.

Raytheon is one of the main suppliers of integration equipment for
SIVAM. The project will create a complete surveillance system to
collect accurate and continually updated information about the Amazon
that will support the protection and sustainable development of the
region.

The system will allow the government to monitor air traffic, detect
deforestation, and observe other conditions and activities throughout
the rain forest. SIVAM will link radars, sensors and satellites
connected to regional coordination centers through a vast
telecommunication network.

Raytheon Company is a global technology leader that provides products
and services in commercial and defense electronics, engineering and
construction, and business and special mission aircraft. Raytheon has
