Forest Code Continues to Cause Controversy

A controversy surrounding the bill dealing with forest policy in Pará, the State Forest Code, has caused the voting on the legislation to be postponed until Tuesday the 24th. The controversy involves an article that only vaguely describes the manner in which state forests may be utilised, referring to the "preferred" usage of a concession period, which is not defined in the bill. According to Representative Gabriel Gerreiro, the text was incomplete, and needed to be amended. After further discussion, the concession period was limited to 30 years, but discussion on the right to own state forests has yet to be concluded.
