October 5, 2000

In the next few years, the federal government intends to increase Brazil's participation in the world market for certified timber by 10%, according to the National Forest Program (PNF), launched in September. The project anticipates, over the next ten years, the management of 20 million hectares of native forest, and the reforestation of some 600 thousand hectares a year. In order to meet these goals the government will be spending R$ 685 million in the sector this year alone.
