Pontevedra, Spain - Around 30 Greenpeace activists Thursday climbed on board a freighter carrying tropical wood in the northwest Spanish port of Marin, the environmental organization said.

The activists from six European countries boarded the Panamanian- registered MS Wouri to protest the destruction of rainforests in Brazil's Amazon region.

They inflated plastic figures of six animals residing in tropical forests, and displayed posters reading "Stop the Destruction of the Amazon".

Every time European consumers bought products made of tropical wood, they were contributing to the demise of forests, Greenpeace representatives said.
