Chief Aritana, an Indian leader from Xingu Park, in Mato Grosso, denounced yesterday a plan by an unknown group of Americans to buy land adjacent to the park, which he believes will be used to exploit eco-tourism within the park. According to Orlando Villas Boas, who has lived in the region most of his life, the threat of invasion could provoke a serious conflict with the Indians. Next week, the Indian leaders of the Xingu Park will meet in Brasilia to discuss the situation.
