Indian Forest Management Project Utilises 30 Year Cycle

Agência Estado
October 26, 2000

The area belonging to the Xikrin Indians, of Pará, destined for forest management is approximately 44 thousand hectares of continuous native forest that will be selectively logged over a cycle of 30 years. In this fashion, the area is divided into 30 portions, each of which is logged during one year. The forest areas are logged in a selective fashion, leaving behind enough original forest so that it may regenerate over the 30 years before the next harvest.
