The Brazilian Association for the Sustainable Use of the Biodiversity of the Amazon (Bioamazonia), responsible for the Brazilian Program for Molecular Ecology for the Sustainable Use of the Biodiversity of the Amazon (PROBEM), will sign on the 5th of November a protocol of technical cooperation with the city of Manacapuru in order to conduct an inventory of the biodiversity of the Amazon River region. Eleven people from the city will be trained to conduct the inventory. The same protocol has already been signed with the city of Envira, to inventory the Juruá River region. Further inventories will be conducted at the Rio Negro and Tapajós River regions, as well as the area nearby Belém. With the inauguration in 2001 of the Centre for Biotechnology of the Amazon (CBA), the international and domestic demand for biological samples and information will increase dramatically.
