In a month the government will send a bill to Congress governing the extraction of timber and other natural resources from national forests of the Amazon. Timber companies looking to extract timber from a national forest will not be required to purchase land, but will have to pay a royalty fee to the government. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the bill will be used to encourage the use of rational, sustainable development of forests, instead of the usual predatory, destructive methods.
