Businesses interested in purchasing or selling natural products of the Amazon, such as plant oils and fibres, produced in an ecologically correct fashion, will be able to make offers on the internet, starting this week. By Friday the 22nd, the Amazon Fund website will be up and running in a preliminary, experimental stage. Interested businesses will be able to register with the Fund, and when fully operational, the site will allow registered users access to the Fund's database of natural product suppliers and consumers. The idea of the site is to create a bridge between the consumers and the often-isolated producers, enabling demand for ecologically developed Amazon products to increase. The Amazon Fund was created two years ago by the Centre for Action for Sustainable Development (POEMAR) in partnership with Biotrade, of the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
