The National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) has confirmed that more than a thousand gold prospectors have invaded the Yanomami Reservation in Roraima in search of gold. With the help of the Federal Police and the Federal Public Ministry, FUNAI has begun to develop "Operation Yanomami" to remove the invading gold prospectors and protect the Yanomami. FUNAI intends to work to avoid conflicts between the invaders and the Yanomami, though there is already an unconfirmed report of a gold prospector being killed. 10 thousand Yanomami currently live in the reservation.
