VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Environmentalists won at least a temporary victory yesterday in their bid to prevent logging in a British Columbia forest that is home to the endangered northern spotted owl.

A British Columbia Supreme Court judge overturned several logging permits given to Cattermole Timber Ltd. and ordered the cutting request to be reviewed again by British Columbia's Forest Service.

Environmental groups had challenged the permits, arguing that forestry officials ignored warnings from their provincial environmental protection counterparts that the logging near Yale, British Columbia, would threaten the owls.
