COPENHAGEN - Denmark's Energy Minister Svend Auken said late last
week five new offshore windmill parks should be completed by 2001.
Auken in a letter to Denmark's Public Party said the wind power
projects would cost around 8.6 billion Danish crowns and have a
combined effect of 750 megawatts.
The Danish government has a goal of building offshore windmill plants
with a total effect of 4,000 megawatt.
According to the Kyoto Protocol, Denmark pledged to cut emissions of
greenhouse gases by 21 percent by 2012, compared with 1990 emission
levels.
Meanwhile, the Danish parliament has decided to slash domestic
emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 20 percent by 2005 compared to
1988 levels.
