KUCHING - Sarawak has so far given the green light to six major timber-related firms to establish planted forests in the State, acting State Director of Forest Dr Lee Hua Seng said
today. The licences issued to them cover a gross area of 1.4 million hectares, inclusive of areas which are not suitable for planted forests, such as swamps and rocky terrains.
"Some of the areas might not be usable in the forseeable future, as there were disputes on land rights," said Lee when opening at a seminar on "Tree improvement strategies and seed collection in natural forests" at the Kuching Hilton.
