OK TEDI Mining Limited (OTML) will begin explaining its mine closure plans to the people of the affected areas in Western province following the acceptance of the planning process by the Government.
The OTML welcomed the Government's acceptance of the planning process, and said the mine's Rehabilitation and Closure Plan was part of the company's ten year planning framework.
In a brief issued by its public relations division, the company said the planning framework was also a process in accordance with obligations forming part of the Ok Tedi Principal Agreement.
With the acceptance of the closure plan, OTML will now be giving presentations to affected groups and communities in Western province where the mine is located to explain the closure planning process.
However, dates and venues were not specified.
The brief said consultation with stakeholders will begin next year to enable a more detailed closure plan to be developed.
The mine closure plan will be reviewed at regular intervals and will evolve further through consultation and during the remaining mine life.
