MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10: International Day of Action
To Defend Indigenous Peoples and Nicaragua's Rainforest

The Nicaraguan government has granted logging concessions to
Solcarsa, a Korean multinational corporation, and several other
companies in the country's North Atlantic Autonomous Region
(RAAN), inhabited largely by indigenous peoples (Miskito, Sumu,
Rama) and the site of the largest rainforest in the Western
Hemisphere north of the Amazon Basin. These concessions violate
Nicaraguan autonomy statutes providing for the control of land
and resources by the peoples of the Caribbean region.

On November 10 activists in Nicaragua--both on the Caribbean
Coast and in the capital, Managua--will lead an International Day
of Action. Supporters will rally at Nicaraguan embassies and
consulates worldwide to present a Statement of Principles
outlining the demands of Nicaragua's indigenous peoples for the
preservation of their lands. Join us in New York, or contact us
for information on other ways you can help.

11 am to 1 pm at the Nicaraguan consulate
820 2nd Avenue (between 43rd and 44th Street)
There will be a march to the Korean consulate at 1 pm.
