Premier Peter Beattie will meet the Prime Minister soon to discuss
Queensland's new tree clearing laws.
Mr Beattie wants more than $100 million in Commonwealth funding to
help compensate farmers who are affected by the new restrictions,
which will apply to freehold land.
However Mr Beattie does not think the meeting will be held before
State Cabinet in Winton on February 13 and 14.
"I know that there's a mobilisation going on of people across certain
parts of Queensland, who want to talk with the cabinet about it,
well, we will talk to them," he said.
"I'm saying to the people of Queensland, country Queensland who want
to talk to us, please come to Winton.
"I'd be delighted if you did, I mean I will talk to them and I
understand they're organising buses and so on, I welcome that," Mr
Beattie said.
