Police, ambulances, tow trucks and State Emergency Services have been
called to a violent confrontation between loggers and forest
protesters in Victoria's east overnight.
The reported ambush in East Gippsland followed a protest yesterday
where two aboriginal representatives handed eviction notices to
loggers in old growth forest.
The confrontation happened at the long established protester camp at
remote Goolengook near the Errinundra plateau.
Protesters say more than 12 vehicles arrived late last night carrying
up to 40 loggers who proceeded to destroy the camp.
Ambulances were sent to the area to treat alleged assault victims.
Tow trucks have been called in to remove vehicles damaged in the
incident.
