ENSURING
A SUSTAINABLE FOREST FUTURE
Forests.org's
Annual Appeal For Donations
November
25, 2001
Dear
forest conservation friends and colleagues,
Happy
Holidays! It is time for Forests.org's
annual fund-raising
drive. I am asking you for a donation to enable the
continuation of
our
important work. The future of these
efforts depends entirely
upon
your generosity. You can make a gift at
http://forests.org/donate/.
Please,
at this critical juncture for the World's forests, choose to
support
Forests.org. We need to raise several
thousand dollars over
the
next months to meet our immediate needs.
It is important that
this
service not be taken for granted.
Thanks
to your continued dependable support, Forests.org has had a
grand
year. The Forest Conservation Portal at
http://forests.org/
and the
Climate Ark at http://www.climateark.org/ are the Internet's
premier
forest and climate resources. We have
completed the first
scientifically
constructed evaluation of our efforts.
Some 85% of
those
subscribing to this email list and using the web site are
satisfied
with the efforts, and over 50% highly so.
Some 7.5 million
web
pages and email messages were networked over the past year.
Users
come from over five-dozen countries.
Together
we have learned together - and at times spoken with one
voice -
contributing over the past year to forest conservation
victories
in Brazil, Papua New Guinea, America, Canada, Chile and
elsewhere. Simply, there is no more effective,
extensive or
efficient
forest conservation network in existence.
Forests.org
has quite a year before us. We intend
to unveil three
new
sites - the "Environmental Sustainability Portal", "State of the
Rainforests"
and the "American Forest Conservation Portal". As I
complete
my Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin, new institutional
arrangements
will be implemented to sustain and enhance the efforts.
Without
a successful end of the year fund-raising drive, the future
of
these efforts is uncertain. There are
several ways that you
and/or
your organization can ensure this educational campaign
continues:
1) Individual donations can be made using a
credit card on our
secure
web site donation page at http://forests.org/donate/. Contact
us for
information to send checks by post.
2) Frequently these appeals identify small
grant opportunities for
Forests.org. Please contact us should your organization
be able to
make a
grant, or have leads on grant application opportunities.
3) Our staff consists of highly trained
conservation biologists and
computer
technicians. Frequently we do
consultancies for other
groups
in the areas of web design, conservation planning, ecological
database
design and GIS mapping. Please let us
know of consulting
opportunities
that would indirectly support Forests.org's efforts.
Together
we can will global forest sustainability into being. Thank
you
very much for your continued support.
We look forward to hearing
from
you.
Sincerely,
Glen
