Philippine Mudslide Is Ecosystem Collapse

All around us are indications of regional ecosystem collapse that together threaten humanity with global ecosystem collapse. The recent Philippine mudslide can be directly traced to deforestation, climate change and overpopulation. To say otherwise is to deny reality and scientific facts, and amounts to deadly obstructionism. We simply must confront these issues head on or we are doomed.

What makes the tragedy in the Philippines even worse is not only that the native trees to the region were uprooted for more profitable coconut trees (with shallower roots), but also that the 11 or so survivors are still sleeping on the floor of a community centre with not enough to eat because of the massive corruption in the Philippines. The Japanese government alone donated 27 million pesos, and yet the affected region has received about 3 million. Where has the rest gone?
