Pilot ACPs are used to test new ideas before they are fully integrated into the LEED rating systems.<\/p>\n<h3>The Certified Wood pilot ACP<\/h3>\n<p>Builders and architects can use wood and paper products certified to the <a href=\"https:\/\/forests.org\/\">Sustainable<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/forests.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forestry Initiative <\/a>(SFI), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.treefarmsystem.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Tree Farm System<\/a> (ATFS), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csasfmforests.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canadian Standards Association<\/a> (CSA), <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.fsc.org\/en-ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forest Stewardship Council<\/a> (FSC), and <a href=\"http:\/\/pefc.org\/\">Programme for<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/pefc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Endorsement of Forest Certification<\/a> (PEFC) standards to achieve a point in the Certified Wood Pilot ACP under LEED 2009 and achieve a point in the Sourcing of Raw Materials Pilot ACP under <a href=\"http:\/\/new.usgbc.org\/leed-v4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LEED v4<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility for LEED points<\/h3>\n<p>In order to achieve a LEED point, the user must know that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100% of the forest products are from legal (noncontroversial) sources.<\/li>\n<li>70% are from responsible sources.<\/li>\n<li>The remainder must be certified sources as evidenced by a chain-of-custody (CoC) certification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forests.org\/fibersourcingstandard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SFI Fiber Sourcing certification<\/a> counts as legal and responsible, while forest products delivered through SFI, FSC or PEFC CoC certification count as legal, responsible and certified sources.<\/p>\n<p>The Alternative Compliance Path applies to all LEED v4 and LEED 2009 systems, including Building Design and Construction (BD+C), Interior Design and Construction (ID+C), Building Operations and Maintenance (O+M), Neighborhood Development (ND) and Homes (under LEED v4).<\/p>\n<h3>Tips for product manufacturers using SFI<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Label your products with the <a href=\"https:\/\/forests.org\/labelsandclaims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SFI logo<\/a> to help make it easy for architects and builders to identify that the wood or paper is certified to the SFI standard and eligible to earn a LEED point.<\/li>\n<li>If you are an <a href=\"https:\/\/forests.org\/chainofcustodystandard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SFI Chain-of-Custody<\/a> certificate holder, you can communicate that your wood or paper products can contribute to a point in the \u201ccertified wood\u201d credit under LEED 2009 as well as in the \u201csourcing of raw materials\u201d credit under LEED v4. For SFI Fiber Sourcing certificate holders, communicate that your wood or paper products count in both the legal and responsible sources categories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tips for project teams using SFI<\/h3>\n<p>Building Operations and Maintenance (LEED O+M) are eligible for the ACP. This means using furniture, wood and paper products certified to SFI can help you achieve points in the \u201congoing purchasing and renovations\u201d credits in LEED v4.
