After being canceled in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Free Comic Book Day will make an exciting nationwide return this Saturday, August 14.
Join SFI in celebrating the release of our downloadable 20+ page comic, The Secrets of Future Forests, created in partnership with Comics Uniting Nations, PCI Media, UNICEF, and illustrated by Tinta Vital.
Why comics? Environmental education and art go together like Batman and Robin! What better way to inspire the next generation to value and benefit from sustainably managed forests than to engage and inspire youth through comics? Follow Sylvia, Pedro, and a friendly giant through the forest to learn how trees capture carbon, support plant and animal biodiversity, filter water, and connect communities.
The story of how we work together to keep forests as forests will engage everyone in the family, and the immersive, full-page art is perfect for elementary through middle school-aged readers.
The Secrets of Future Forests was developed in partnership with Comics Uniting Nations, which creates and distributes graphic novels that aim to make the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) more accessible to citizens of the world.
The UN SDGs are an urgent call to action for countries to achieve a more sustainable future for all. And while the impact of responsibly-managed forests is seen through all 17 UN SDGs, Goals 15: Life on Land, and 4: Quality Education are particularly relevant to SFI and Project Learning Tree’s mission to advance sustainability through forest-focused collaborations.
