SFI and Habitat for Humanity Canada are going from being like‐minded allies to official partners with the signing of a memorandum of mutual support at the SFI Annual conference in Montreal. “We are excited to have SFI’s formal commitment to help Habitat for Humanity. SFI and its network of grassroots implementation committees work at the intersection of healthy forests, sustainable communities and the responsible purchasing of forest products,” said Mark Rodgers, the Chief Operating Officer of Habitat for Humanity Canada.

SFI has been recognized by BREEAM for its ability to allow the construction industry to responsibly source forest products. The announcement was made by BREEAM on September 12th. BREEAM – the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method – is the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings. Worldwide, there are more than a quarter of a million buildings with certified BREEAM assessment ratings and over a million registered for assessment.

A single mom and her three kids are part of a grassroots movement to turn downtown Greenwood, SC into a more sustainable community with help from Habitat for Humanity and the SFI.
