Domtar is an active partner in the SFI Climate Smart Forestry Initiative, a multi-year initiative advancing the interpretation and implementation of Climate Smart Forestry across the SFI footprint, and a central partner in Silva21, a collaborative research program advancing the resilience of Canadian forests. In 2025, Domtar hosted the SFI-sponsored Silva21 4th Annual General Meeting Field Tour, underscoring a commitment to collaborative learning and applied forest science. Their leadership within SFI also includes service on the Canadian SFI Climate Smart Forestry Initiative Advisory Committee and leadership of the Quebec SFI Implementation Committee (SIC). Further, Domtar has recently participated in an innovative pilot project in Pennsylvania that is exploring more effective ways to identify and communicate the potential presence of Forests with Exceptional Conservation Value, a fundamental conservation objective in SFI Standards.

SFI presented the Leadership in Conservation Award to Domtar at the 2026 SFI Annual Conference, where leaders from across the forest and conservation sector explored how nature-based solutions can drive measurable sustainability impacts. Since 2007, SFI has presented a Leadership in Conservation Award that recognizes an SFI-certified organization (individuals or organization), a team of partners, or a research or conservation-related individual for outstanding conservation achievements and innovation. The intent of the award is to celebrate excellence in conservation practices for the benefit of sustainable forest management and responsible fiber sourcing.
