CAREER PATHWAYS: SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION
SFI, Project Learning Tree, and Project Learning Tree Canada believe that our shared future will rely on leaders with a commitment to sustainability and a passion for the outdoors. Project Learning Tree Canada (PLT Canada), an initiative of SFI, has a Green Jobs program that promotes careers in the forest, conservation, and parks sectors.

PLT Canada supports the next generation of forest and conservation leaders. Project Learning Tree Canada believes in a society that values and benefits from sustainably managed forests and the great outdoors. PLT Canada is committed to advancing environmental education, forest literacy, and career pathways, using trees and forests as windows on the world.
Green jobs help instill a passion for the outdoors. PLT Canada’s Green Jobs program helps place young adults in a variety of careers that exist in the forest, conservation, and parks sectors. These include jobs in ecosystem and wildlife management, forest management, Indigenous forest-based programs, recreation and interpretation, education, conservation and research, as well as in provincial and territorial parks. Green Jobs allow youth to gain valuable work experience that will help them pursue careers in forest management, climate smart practices, fire resilience and awareness, biodiversity and conservation, Indigenous relations, research and technology, and much more.
PLT Canada has achieved gender balance across job placements. We have also prioritized Indigenous youth placements and built relationships with Indigenous youth development organizations in the forest sector to provide opportunities and career support. In 2025, 55% of green jobs were filled by young women and 24% of green jobs were filled by Indigenous youth.
