PEFC ENDORSEMENT OF THE SFI 2022 CHAIN OF CUSTODY STANDARD
The SFI 2022 Chain of Custody Standard is endorsed by PEFC. Based on this assessment, SFI 2022 chain of custody certified organizations can use their chain of custody procedures to make PEFC claims and apply to use the PEFC logos. Based on this endorsement, PEFC content claims can now include SFI-certified product.
The following table shows how SFI and PEFC claims align and is in Section 7, Guidance to SFI 2022 Standards and Rules:
PEFC CHAIN OF CUSTODY AND TRADEMARK USE
Certified organizations with a valid PEFC trademarks usage licence with SFI Inc. (the PEFC US national governing body) can use the PEFC Label Generator to create the PEFC label. The PEFC Trademark Rules released in 2020 are for use with the PEFC Chain of Custody Standard also released in 2020. Trademark rules apply to PEFC-certified companies and forest owners, brand owners, NGOs and PEFC members, and other groups whenever using the PEFC trademarks.
PEFC logo users in the US and Canada can use the Online Label Approval Request Platform for trademark approval and record-keeping. Contact SFI for more.

PEFC CHAIN OF CUSTODY AND TRADEMARK USE — PREVIOUS VERSIONS
Use the online PEFC Label Generator if you have a PEFC COC Certificate issued to PEFC ST 2002:2013. If you want to use the PEFC label but don’t yet have a license code, please contact SFI.
The 2020 version of the Chain of Custody, PEFC ST 2002:2013 standard replaced the previous 2013 version on 14 February 2020. The transition date is 14 February 2022. After this, companies still certified against the 2013 version will need to prepare their system according to the 2020 version, in preparation for certification against this version during their next external audit.
The 2020 version of the PEFC Logo Usage Rules – Requirements, PEFC ST 2001:2008 standard replaced the previous 2008 version on 14 February 2020. For organizations with a PEFC logo licence issued before the publication of this latest document, a 24 month transition period applies. The transition date is 14 February 2022.
